AFRO-FUTURISTIC VISION #21 Breath and Supernatural Abilities
Breath and Supernatural Abilities
Rise in Excellence,
I can go on and on about the Wind-Rider, Storm, b/c to me she represents the elements of Internal Science at its best and in mind Storm, Ororo is the only non-mutant in the X-men. Whereas, Mutants in the Marvel Universe are a result of the hand of Omni-Potent Beings interacting with Man (like Zecharia Stetchin’s translation of the Enuma Elish), I feel that Orroro’s powers are more a result of huemans natural connection with natural and their own abilities when unhampered by certain social and cultural climates. And through Ororo’s constant affirmation of her cultural lifestory using the power of words, we can see that breathing plays a large part in Supernatural Abilities. For focus, nutrition to the brain, nutrition to the blood and the activation of the genes. And the whole fact that Ororo’s powers deal with the weather, which in a sense is Nature’s emotional expressions, rather than one specific physical power like strength, eye-beams, claws and so forth. It is about connection to the surroundings. There are many practices in the world today that allow one to use the forces around them to maintain health and affect their social standing in life. Many of those abilities deal with the Breath, which I mentioned before is the Psychic Wind that travels through the universe, and when consistent with your practice you are able to focus from the internal you without relying on the conditioned external you. A few practices are: Tai-Chi, Kemet Yoga, Yoga, Kung-Fu, Afrikan Martial Arts, Meditation and Chi-Kung. All of which are designed to enhance the ability of the many aspects of Breathing (Physical, Spiritual and Mental). Notice that when Storm uses her powers there is always some rhythmic movement involved or some words spoken to the forces of nature. She does something to connect beyond her so-called mutant ability. She learned to control her powers with the help of Ainet, who is a Serengeti Priestess, explain to Ororo how her powers worked with nature.*Results from a search –
Storm is one of the most powerful mutants and has demonstrated a plethora of abilities, most of which are facets of her power to control the weather. Storm possesses the psionic ability to control all forms of weather over vast areas. She has been able to control both Earthly and extraterrestrial ecosystems on several occasions. She can control the temperature of the environment, control all forms of precipitation, humidity and moisture (at a molecular level), generate lightning and other electromagnetic atmospheric phenomena, and has demonstrated excellent control over atmospheric pressure. She can incite all forms of meteorological tempests, such as tornadoes, thunderstorms, blizzards, and hurricanes, as well as mist. She can dissipate such weather to form clear skies as well. Her precise control over the atmosphere allows her to create special weather effects. She can create precipitation at higher or lower altitudes than normal, make whirlwinds travel pointing lengthwise in any direction, channel ambient electromagnetism through her body to generate electric blasts, flash freeze objects and people, coalesce atmospheric pollutants into acid rain or toxic fog, and, along with her natural ability of flight, summon wind currents strong enough to support her weight to elevate herself to fly at high altitudes and speeds. Her control is so great that she can even manipulate the air in a person’s lungs. She can also control the pressure inside the human inner ear, an ability she uses to cause intense pain. She can also bend light using moisture in the air and her manipulation of mist and fog to appear partially transparent, and in later comics, nearly invisible.
Storm’s ancestry supports the use of magic and witchcraft. Many of her ancestors were sorceresses and priestesses. Storm’s matrilineal powers have even been linked to the real-world Rain Queens of Balobedu, the region from which her Sorceress Supreme ancestor, Ayesha, hails. The Mystic Arcana series deals with Storm’s ancestor Ashake, who worships the Egyptian goddess Ma’at, also known as Oshtur — the mother of Agamotto. Oshtur appears to have strong favor for the bloodline of Ororo. For some unknown reason, since the dawn of Atlantis, this line of African women has been given distinguishing features of white hair, blue eyes, and powerful magic potential.
As an Afro-Futurist, I know that Magic and Witchcraft are another way of saying psychic and psionic, which is interesting b/c this would point to Ororo’s ability being more within what some refer to as Gods and not a Mutant. And the whole blue-eyes and white hair thing I am unsure about, however, some of the Elders of the Cosmos have been known to be described with dark skin, blue-eyes and white hair as well. And the reference of Atlantis secretly refers to its counterpart…Lemuria. In any case, when it comes to lifting the veil of Sci-Fi and the intricate part everyday Breathing plays in this genre, Storm/Ororo is an excellent representative.
